Throughout life there are many peaks and valleys, tears are shed and battles are won. There are many times that you feel down and don’t know what to do. On the other hand there are many great things that happen in life that make the world go round. The one thing I felt I did best in my life, so far, was my experience as the chapter FFA president in my high school.
Growing up on a farm and being around agriculture all my life, I knew that FFA would be of interest to me once I entered high school. The first encounter I had with FFA was with one of my babysitters when I was young during the annual fruit sales. When my parents purchased fruit from her that was my first insight into our local FFA.
Once I entered high school I immediately joined FFA. I soon met many people and created new friendships. Before I knew it I was starting my senior year in high school. I participated in many activities and career development events. I was elected president for the 2008-2009 school year. At this point I was feeling my best.
I helped reorganize and make our FFA chapter better as a whole. In years past the chapter was pretty unorganized and not represented well throughout our district. I worked hard to get new members to join and participate. I felt pretty honored to be president, especially when our agricultural education teacher complimented on my work.
Heading off to college, I had mixed feelings on what it would be like. With my experience as a president of an organization, I felt more confident on succeeding at Iowa State University. I gained many skills during my time in FFA. They will help me in many ways through my college career. I also met many people at various events all over the state of Iowa, building my friendship network.
In the years leading up to college I had many times I felt good, but nothing compared to how I felt being president of our FFA. I’m glad I chose to take on the position of president. In the many years to come, I feel that my experience as president will help me in various ways. I think that this experience was some of my best work during high school that I performed. I hope in the future that I will get this same opportunity, maybe in a higher position.
